There are two ways to be a LEA artist:
STAYS
Stays are the most common format in LEA. In this modality the artists share the entire work space, without assigned areas, each one uses the space they need according to the specific needs of each moment. Stays have a minimum duration of 6 months and are reviewed annually if extended. The artists in residence choose 4 weekly shifts from the twelve available (each shift lasts 6 hours: 9:00-15:00 and 15:00-21:00, Monday to Saturday), thus generating a continuous movement of artists through the space.
FULL TIME RESIDENCIES
Full time residencies are a classic format for artists who do not live in Madrid and need intensive work hours. For periods of 3 months LEA offers a full own work and storage space of about 15sqm. The full time artist in residency will have the same advantages as an artist in stay, but with a full schedule from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. from Monday to Saturday. The full time area and the shared laboratory of the artists in stay are united to promote dialogue and synergies.
GENERAL CONDITIONS
Both the stays and the full time residencies, have the objective of promoting research in visual arts and the professional growth of their artists, sheltered by a community specialized in contemporary art. LEA provides its artists with a 200sqm space fully equipped for the realization of different disciplines, a gallery room for experimentation in exhibition setup, a space for photographing art work and a library specialized in current art. On the other hand, it generates a network of national and international collaborations, which enables the expansion of the work carried out within a program of exhibitions in galleries and museums, talks with professionals, analysis sessions and artistic clinics. Our artists also have a patronage program aimed at finding people who, interested in their research, fully or partially cover the extensions of their stays in the laboratory. To access LEA, a dossier of completed work and an experimentation project will be required, consisting of an action/research proposal that poses a challenge in the artist's production.
TUTORIZATION AND ACTIVITIES
To strengthen the work that LEA does for the interaction, the consolidation of links and the professional growth, we created a complete program of exclusive activities for our artists: playful activities to build community, talks with personalities from the world of culture, portfolio samples for professionals and meetings with patrons and collectors. During you stay or residency, you can request tutoring sessions to analyze the work done or the ideas you intend to carry out, advice on the preparation of dossiers, budgets, texts and statements... We also promote projects exhibitions in different LEA collaborating spaces, including renowned galleries and museums. We propose annually a group exhibition in an international gallery (the exhibitions will have a curation of pieces/artists and only artists who are doing a stay/residency at the time of the exhibition will be eligible). In addition, an LEA catalog will be produced annually that will be distributed free of charge among artists, patrons, collaborating spaces, galleries, institutions and LEA friends.
INSTALACIONES
- Labs
The laboratories are the workspace where the artists carry out their works. The laboratories have a total area of 110sqm to share, in each shift, with a maximum of 10 artists. They are divided into a clean area and a dirty or tool area. They have natural overhead and diffuse light (it does not generate shadows or reflections), a height of 6 meters, a large sink for washing brushes, bathrooms with showers, a storage area for each artist, lockers and are equipped with the following furniture and tools:
Large 150x150 tables with smooth surface
Easels of different heights

- Exhibition room
LEA´s exhibition room is a beautiful rectangular space with 3.4m high white walls, a polished concrete floor and a glass front with natural light. Includes Wi-Fi, two adjustable lighting circuits (monorail spotlights and neutral led tube), hangers around the perimeter and a ceiling projector with 3 meters of 16: 9 projection width and connection via HDMI from table, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. In this space, the LEA artist will be able to test his exhibition montages before presenting them to a gallery or take photographs of his pieces in a professional setting. LEA artists will be able to perform in this space an open studio.
- Library
One of the most pampered areas of LEA is the library, with contemporary art books divided into: photography, video art and digital art, painting, drawing and engraving, sculpture, performance and installation. And each of these is also classified into monographs, group catalogs, essays, artist's books or others. The library is nourished by donations from museums, foundations and private contributions who support this archive of knowledge. It is especially valuable for LEA artists who can use it as a source of inspiration and reference.
- Living / Meeting Room
Adjacent to the showroom there is an industrial style living room with raw concrete pillars, walls and floors. This space is designed for social life among LEA artists or between them and patrons, gallery owners, curators... In short, itis a cozy space to chat, read or take a break from work. It also has a kitchenette with a fridge, coffee maker and microwaves.
LEA is adapted for people with reduced mobility.
